During the 1960’s, the Japanese automobile manufacturer TOYOTA entered late in the field of sports car.

Being the first genuine sports car, only 337 cars of this TOYOTA 2000GT was sold for the period of 3 years from 1967.

The price was US$23,000 (2.38 million yen). This was a highly expensive car, beyond all the imagination for the general people, as the salary of an university graduate at that time was about US$290 (30,000 yen) on the average.

It takes lot of labor for the car, and the price is also comparatively high. The sales was always in deficit throughout the entire production period. It had to be said as the, "Expensive advertising expense" for Toyota.

At present, due to the popularity and rare availability, the price of the used car is more than US$290,500 (30 million yen). It is representative presence of the sports car that is “Made in Japan”.

Especially, the rosewood used lavishly in the surroundings of the instrumentation panel was an elegance of art, and was the main selling point of this car.

The presence was known worldwide after the appearance as “Bond car” in the movie “007 - You Only Live Twice” (1967). Globally, it was the car that had the best evaluation among the Japanese cars.
Like the old Ferrari, the significance of having the 2000GT as an investment and as a work of art is high. The price gradually keeps rising, and does not seem to come down.
