AE86 [KEIICHI TSUCHIYA] DORIKIN

He rode the AE86 in the public road (road over a mountain pass) before becoming a racer, and then climbed the victory stand at the 24 heures du Mans.
1999 Toyota TS020

Even after retiring from the race, he is continuing his ride in AE86. If you say AE86, then the name DORIKIN (means Drift King) and KEIICHI TSUCHIYA comes without fail.

This time, I will introduce two videos in this blog. First one is the video from the shakedown of crossing the road over a mountain pass after the overhaul & power improvement of his beloved car by TEC.ARTS in 2012, to the stage of ending by finishing the chassis.

Second is the video during the shakedown of AE86 LEVIN racing car that was finished for TSUCHIYA by devoting the total energy of TRD by Mr.SAKURAI of TRD.

Especially, the driving of the road over the mountain pass of TRUENO is must-see.
I think you will understand that it is controlling well by holding the sliding car body.
In the middle there were confrontations of old and new 86. Snow had piled up on the side of the course during the final stage setting of the video. The time was reduced by the time attack with all one’s might though the condition was that it will easily crash if you make mistake in taking the line. It is truly a miracle.

In the United States, majority of the race is the competition of speed in straight line like the drag racing and oval course circumference race etc., but here in Japan, the point is how faster one would run past from the behind at the corner pass, and speed at the straight line is not interesting.
Hence, the manufacturing of the car that can precisely turn at the corner similar to the European cars was highly regarded rather than the high power car like the United States.
I also feel very glad to see many Japanese cars in the Hill climb race that is actively performed in Europe of recent years.

Not all cars are of high power.
A happy car can be accomplished with low-profile setting and total balance, even in a powerless car. The reason for continuing to maintain the AE86 lies there.

Saying so, I also own 2 numbers of AE86.
