M/s. Cosworth, the engine manufacturer and the producers of F1 engine in United Kingdom, seems to have started the tuning of Subaru BRZ.
M/s. Cosworth has made a preliminary announcement in its official
site, entitled as “FA20 power package” on the tuning of Subaru BRZ.
The FA20 type and direct-injection 2.0 liter horizontally opposed 4 cylinder gasoline engine of Subaru BRZ normally draws out the maximum output of 200ps / 7000rpm and maximum torque of 20.9kgm / 6400~6600rpm.
The tuning details of M/s. Cosworth is unclear at present, but M/s. Cosworth has already handled the tuning of “Impreza WRX STI”, and is supposed to be make the best use of that knowhow.
From the image presented to the public in the preliminary announcement, I wonder whether it is a sales of the total package as a special edition, because the addition of a big rear spoiler and blue decal to the BRZ can be confirmed.
This is such an enjoyable car.

Farewell LANCER Evolution! Great car of world rally championship conquest faces sad end
The LANCER Evolution of Mitsubishi Motors is going to finally stop the production of the current model.
Whenever the new model goes out it becomes the news for the media. The reason is that it finally ended in the history of the famous cars of this company.
The first generation model of LANCER Evolution made the debut as a special version of Lancer small sedan in 1992. A high power turbocharged engine and four-wheel drive system was adopted because it was developed as a base vehicle for World Rally Championship (WRC) participation.
The LANCER Evolution acquired the driver king in the year 1996 and 1997 season in the WRC, and shined with the two crowns of driver and the manufacturer in the next year 1998.
The Impreza of Suburu participated from Japan, made the rival presence in the WRC, and showed off the overwhelming strength in the rally field in the second half of the 1990's.
There was a PR effect in such a brilliant result, and this gave birth to the enthusiastic believers not only in Japan but also in foreign countries.
As a result, a total number of 154,000 cars was sold all over the world.
However, the domestic sales of last year was only 621 cars.
During its peak period, it was such a lonely number of 1 car in 15 minutes.
The production end is due to no other option, why did the sales of the LANCER Evolution that was the pronoun of the performance car of Japan had such a poor fall?

The performance of the LANCER Evolution has hardly evolved after that, and it is in the shadow of not even making sufficient advertisement.
In a word, the LANCER Evolution has already become a “Dead body” from the last few years.
However, the old rival Impreza is continuing the WRX contrastingly, and it maintaining the sense of existence as the image leader of Subaru. What is this difference?
Subuaru also withdrew from the WRC in the year 2008 due to the effect of Lehman shock, but unlike the Mitubishi motors the Subauru’s major shareholder Toyota has appreciated the car making of Subaru that it does not possess and is supporting it. Subauru is the company where the passion and romance towards the car overflowed originally.
Subauru redefined the WRX as the high performance and high quality road car after withdrawing from the WRC. It is not in good health because it spent the effort in the development and sales activity to match with the redefinition.

SUBARU WRX STI
The world’s first presentation to the public of the new model “WRX STI” (United States specification car) was made in the 2014 North America international auto show held at Detroit in United States by Fuji Heavy Industries.
The new model WRX STI is the car embodied with high-dimension with the common product concept of “Pure Power in Your Control” to the WRX series as the top grade model of the WRX series.
In the WRX base car, a 2.5L horizontally opposed turbo engine that has established reputation at various motor sports, special suspension that improves the rigidity further, and multi mode DCCD (Drivers Control Center Differential) system etc. are installed.
The test run was repeated in the super-high-speed region similar to the WRX STI of successive generations at the Nürburgring circuit in Germany, vehicle performance is comprehensively evolved by improving the performance of the each part of the vehicle such as body and chassis to the utmost limit in this process, and the AWD sports performance of the Subaru highest peak where the high-power can be manipulated at the will of the driver was achieved.
New model WRX STI had the following feature
・Sports performance of WRX STI is expressed by front fender duct and special side sill spoiler of sharp molding.
・LED is used as the light source of the headlamp (low beam and clearance lamp), tail & stop lamp, and high-mount stop lamp.
・Wide feeling of vehicle is emphasized with special developed thin shape rear combination lamp.
・Aerodynamic performance improvement using large rear spoiler.
・Low center of gravity of WRX and high driving performance are emphasized using diffuser integrated bumper and tail pipe of twin dual type.
・Use of shark fin antenna
・Wheelbase extended by 25mm, rear seat feet space expanded, and spare room secured at the space around the shoulder and elbow without changing the overall width.
・Partition glass is newly set by pushing the lower end of A pillar ahead by 200mm, and installing the door mirror in front door panel, and excellent view is secured.
・High power of 305hp/6,000rpm and high torque of 290lb.-ft./4,000rpm are secured.
・Performance of the chassis based on a body and symmetrical AWD is thoroughly strengthened to use up without sparing the high-power of the horizontal opposed turbocharged engine.
・Improvement in limit performance of cornering along with the quick response of the vehicle to the steering wheel operation by the driver by improving the rigidity of each part of the body and suspension, and attempting the optimization of suspension geometry.
・Further improvement in pleasure by operating at will by adopting multimode VDC and active torque vectoring.
・Achievement of precise steering by stiffness improvement of steering wheel system.
・Improvement in moderation feeling and intake feeling in contrast with the traditional 6MT by coupling with the short stroke shift by adopting the reinforced 6 speed manual transmission.
・Multi mode DCCD system is adopted by continuing from the traditional model as the WRX STI special equipment, and the control characteristic of center differential can be freely selected according to road condition and driver preference.
・New development of aluminum wheel (18×8 1/2J) integrating the hardness strengthening and making light weight.
・Provision of carbon tone decoration panel and metal tone accent by focusing each place of the interior and operation part.
・First use of D shaped steering wheel improving the sporty impression to the steering wheel.
・Adoption of 2 eye horizontal indicator layout in meter, 3.5-inch full-color liquid crystal, and visibility improvement using the illumination with red base and white indicator.
