It is said that during the 17th century, the Kyoto craftsman
was invited to Morioka, and asked to make the kettle (..called as Nanbu tekki
in Japanese language) for green tea.
Since then, it was blessed with a good quality raw material. The development
continued by engaging lot of casters from various places who tried hard to
protect and nurture the skill, and the manufactured goods were widely used from
the tea kettle to the daily necessaries.
During the 18th century, improvement in making the small tea
kettle started, and was made cheaper enough even for the common man to use.
A lot of people are familiar with the Nanbu ironware due to the
excellent quality, and it has built a solid position and brand a typical
traditional handicraft of Japan.
The evaluation of many of the collector’s items has further improved in
the recent years as one of the Japanese traditional beauty.
