I wish you a very HAPPY NEW YEAR to all the readers of this
blog.
We will be updating the blog this year also
and look forward for your continued favor.
The first post for this year is special New
Year's food (Called as "Osechi" in Japanese language).
It is a celebration food that is taken on
the eve of New Year in Japan. The
flavor of each dish is made strong by heating, drying, or soaking it in vinegar.
There are many items that can be preserved for a long time. The idea of using
lots of preserved items is to free the women from household work.
The wish of having more and more auspicious
things from the New Year is symbolized by packing the boxes and then repeating
the same to form the next of boxes.
Earlier, in most of the homes, the special
New Year's food was made at home, but now many people buy the food made in
shops, department stores as it takes much time for preparation.
In the big cities like Tokyo, there is
limited sale of special New Year's food made by the famous chefs, and it is
immensely popular that the pre-order ends immediately after the announcement.
There are lots of younger generation
families who don’t have the special New Year's food. I wish that a good
traditional culture of Japan stays for a long time.
The following images are the special New
Year's food (Osechi) at my home (Tomo) for the past 4 years. Every year, these
dishes were prepared by my wife by working hard at the kitchen though out the
day on December 31.
My best regards for this year.
