Honda releases 3D data of its concept models - Experience the Honda “Art of manufacturing” with 3D printer

Honda releases 3D data of its concept models for the users to experience the Honda “Art of manufacturing” with the affordable 3D printer.

Honda Motor Co., Ltd. released the 3D data of the exterior design of concept car models Honda developed in the past. The data is offered based on “Creative Commons 4.0” licenses, a new set of copyright licensing standards, from the website “Honda 3D Design Archives” on Jan 28, 2014.

The 3D data can be downloaded from this website. Honda's concept car models, also called as the crystal of “Honda Design”, can be easily reproduced by a household 3D printer, which is getting more popular in recent years. The simulated experience of Honda's “Art of manufacturing” can be enjoyed.

Honda is currently promoting a new global branding project under which Honda's unique approaches and thoughts toward the “art of manufacturing” appeal to the people outside the company as well.

Following the release of a Honda brand commercial film titled “Super ultra-daydreams”, which debuted at the opening of Honda's press conference at the 2013 Tokyo Motor Show, the release of the 3D data through the “Honda 3D Design Archives” will be the second initiative under this project.

Due to the latest technological innovations and the introduction of low cost household 3D printers, the “Art of manufacturing” in society is experiencing fundamental change. With this backdrop, Honda designed this project with the aim to identify new ways of communication beyond the conventional framework between the “Manufacturer” and “User”.

Honda stated that is hoping to see the emergence of outstanding future automobile designers and engineers from the users inspired by this project.
