Wrapping cloth - Furoshiki

The use of wrapping cloth (Furoshiki in Japanese language) has widely spread due to reason that the items with variety of shape and size can be wrapped with one cloth.

The history is old, and there were some items like that in the Nara era (AD 710).
Various sizes of the wrapping cloth are made, bigger size cloth is called “Large Fukuroshi”, and there are some clothes that can warp the futon (Japanese style bedding).
After the Meiji era (1868-1912), the use of bags from the Western Europe increased, the use of wrapping cloth decreased, and at present it is very rare to see it in the town.

However, there is an opinion to propose the use of wrapping cloth in place of the plastic disposable shopping bag that are used and thrown, as the environmental problems are taken up in recent years.

There are lot of Japanese designs, and it is very popular as the souvenir of the tourists from foreign countries.

By the way, when you wrap a car using wrapping cloth, it will be like this……!
