Shiisa - Lion shaped roof ornament of Okinawa

Shiisa is an image of the beast of the legend that can be seen in places like the Okinawa Prefecture.
The significance of charm against evil spirits that drives away the evil spirits that cause misfortune to the house, people and the town, and is more often set up on the roof.

It started during the year 1689, when the people who suffered from great difficulty due to the frequent occurrence of fire, asked for the advice from the Feng-shui master, and they were suggested to set up the image of the lion and face it towards the mountain to prevent the fire.
When the citizens set up the Shiisa based on the advice, the incidents of fire did not occur. The Shiisa of those times are remaining.

At present, it is very popular from the lovely appearance as the guardian deity of the house, and as the souvenir of Okinawa.

This is one of the Japanese souvenirs that I would recommend as the small size Shiisa can be used to decorate the living room and the door entrance.
