SUZUKI Hayabusa - Japan domestic sale

The SUZUKI Hayabusa was sold in Europe and North America in 1999, and it is being said that the flagship two-wheeler “Hayabusa” of Suzuki being sold at the developing counties like India etc. in recent years is going to be sold in Japan also from February.

It is a big present for the domestic Suzuki big motorbike fan.
It is said that the familiar 1,339cm3, water-cooled 4 stroke in-line 4 cylinder engine will demonstrate entirely the same maximum power of 145kW (197PS) and maximum torque 155N・m (15.8kgf・m) as the export model.

There was a big motorbike boom from the second half of the 1970’s to the 1980’s, and after the frequent occurrence of the accident due to the extreme super-sports model, a regulation to control the fixed maximum horsepower value in each class of bike sold domestically was made.

By this, the following are the bike capacity and the maximum horsepower value.
1) 50cc – 7.2 HP
2) 125cc – 22 HP
3) 250cc – 45 HP
4) 400cc – 59 HP
5) 750cc – 77 HP
6) 1000cc – 100 HP
The domestic manufacturers association called as the “Japan Automobile Manufacturers Association, Inc.” decided the above regulations, and called as “Horsepower voluntary restraints”. Since then, the domestic sports model user has especially continued the condition of “Incomplete combustion” for a very long time.

The very significant existence of the Horsepower voluntary restraints imposed only on the domestic model has weakened due to (1) the introduction of large auto two-wheeler licensing system in September 1996, (2) anyone being able to get the license for driving the large motorbike comparatively easily by the training school, and (3) the familiarization of buying the import model by establishing the sales system etc. The Horsepower voluntary restraints for the motorbike was finally abolished in July, 2007.

However, as you may know that no domestic two-wheeler manufacturers sold the so-called full power model immediately due to this.
The room obtained due to the abolition of the Horsepower voluntary restraints was turned towards dealing with the severe domestic exhaust emission regulations and noise regulations.

By the way, the maximum horsepower model of the Japanese specification to appear in the market after the abolition of Horsepower voluntary restraints was Yamaha VMAX with 111kW (151PS)/ 7,500rpm, and this can be said as the extremely special example
It is because the manufacturer is responding the big motorbike and high-power model by the re-imported cars.
Under such background, the long-awaited Hayabusa of Japanese specification is launched.
